On Thursday, March 21st, we visited a biodiesel factory located in Ota-ku, Tokyo, operated by Workers Co-op.
3/21(木)に、大田区にあるバイオディーゼル工場、ワーカーズコープ「あぐり〜ん東京」さんの見学に行きました！
When we arrived, we saw lots of huge tanks with biodiesel and machines that make them in the back. We also had the chance to see a truck move with their oil.
工場に着くと、まず大きなタンクがたくさん並んでいて、奥の方にバイオディーゼルを作るためのさまざまな装置がありました。そしてバイオディーゼルで走るトラックも、動いているところを実際に見ることができました。
Mr. Shiho Kuroda, the manager, told us how they reuse old oil and turn it into eco-friendly ones with interesting and fascinating explanations.
所長の黒田志保さんが使った後の天ぷら油からどんなふうにエコな燃料を作るのか、1つ1つわかりやすく、面白い説明でお話してくださいました。
Old oil gets filtered, then mixed with chemicals, then cleaned and turned into biodiesel.
食廃油は、最初にろ過装置でろ過され、順番に薬品などを入れて化学反応を起こして不要なものやエンジンにとって良くない汚れを取り除き、きれいなバイオディーゼル燃料になっていくそうです。
Mr. Kuroda actually generated power and boiled water there. Using that, he made us caramel latte!
黒田さんが実際にバイオディーゼルで発電した電気でポットのお湯を沸かして、みんなに美味しいキャラメルラテを入れてくださいました。この発電機の煙からは少し、天ぷらの香りがしました！
We also donated some used oil. Thank you for answering to lots of our questions!
この日のためにおうちで集めていた食廃油も贈呈させていただきました。
質疑応答にも、たくさん答えてくださりとても嬉しかったです。
Because of this visit, we now know that biodiesel is good for the environment. If this biodiesel fuel is used, it emits carbon dioxide. Still, since it’s originally derived from plants like rapeseed, soybeans, and sunflowers, which undergo photosynthesis to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen while growing, the emitted carbon dioxide is offset. As a result, it’s considered eco-friendly energy, known as carbon-neutral or carbon offset.
このバイオディーゼル燃料も、使えば二酸化炭素は出ますが、 もともと食用の油は菜の花、大豆、ひまわりなどの植物が原料なので、 育つ時に光合成をして二酸化炭素を吸収して酸素を作ってくれています。そこで、結果として、排出する二酸化炭素はゼロ、カーボンニュートラル、カーボンオフセットという考え方でエコなエネルギーとよばれているそうです。
Mr. Kuroda also taught us about the history of engines and fuels, and he taught us a lot of interesting, funny, and engaging stories. Thank you so much for all the people at Agreen Tokyo!
